Welcome To Forest Footsteps

A new exciting opportunity to have fun, explore and learn in the woods with your child.

When you are small there is nothing better than to be outdoors playing with sticks and mud.

Join Forest Footsteps, a weekly outdoor group for 2-4 year olds. Your child will have the freedom to play, explore and get muddy as we take part in exciting woodland adventures, have fun and get closer to nature. There will be a different Forest School activity each week as well as a variety of activities such as, campfire cooking, bug hunting, den building, storytelling, woodland games and lots more.

Forest Footsteps is an outdoor Forest School group held in a small copse based on a farm just outside Wetherby. Sessions are suitable for 2-4 year olds and take place on Wednesdays at 10.00-11.30 and 13.00-14.30. The sessions run throughout the year, during term time. We are in the woods come snow, rain or shine and can promise you a preschool group with a difference. Your child will have the opportunity to explore nature, learn new things and foster a lifelong love of the great outdoors while you get the chance for some great outdoor time with your child as well as a cuppa round the campfire and a chat with like minded carers, mums and dads!

What will my child learn?

We teach children:

  • how to use tools
  • how to make objects and art out of natural materials
  • how to make and use fire safely
  • how to stay warm and comfortable whatever the weather
  • how to identify plants and animals
  • how to communicate and work as part of a team
  • how to value the natural environment and use it sustainability

Pre-booking is essential.  To view availability for the next term click on the bookings tab and choose the term and whether you would want to attend the morning or the afternoon session.

Sessions will vary depending on the weather, the time of year and the wishes of the children; but to give you an idea a session might look something like this. We start with a walk up to camp, singing songs along the way. Once at camp, your children can explore the woods, help collect sticks for our campfire, take part in one of our Forest School persuit, play hide and seek, build dens or get stuck into a craft activity. There’s a mud kitchen where we create our wonderful mud pies and more! No problem if it’s raining we can create a shelter together. Each term is different and we plan our activities according to the seasons and what is happening in the woods at that time. There’s always time for hot chocolate and a snack (tea/coffee is provided for the adults), followed by story time or a song to end the session.

Please note: parents must stay for the duration of the session and are responsible for their child throughout.
